The Shambles in York

So the first from the Talk Photography York meet up. It was a great day, though rather tiring. York was far busier than I expected too, which made me a little scared for street photography. So many people. No-one ever seemed to stop either. Everyone just seemed to be passing through, which was odd. I was expecting to see loads of people window shopping but they all seemed to be going somewhere. Still, the Shambles was fun to visit. Very very hard to shoot wide. Its narrow, but that wasn’t the problem. The problem was trying to get a decent exposure with the sky and the ground. I have a few to HDR but even then I’m not sure it’ll work. In the end I stopped trying to get a wide angle shot of the entire street and went for a wide angle shot of the buildings. Oh and I’m not sure why that little shop came out so dark that its just a void.

Camera: Canon 30D // Exposure Program: Aperture Priority // ISO speed: 1600 // Shutter Speed: 1/160 // Aperture: f4.0 // Metering: Average // Focal Length: 10.0 // Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6

Sorry Pete, I don’t find the composition all that interesting.
The conversion, though, is very well done. The vingette effect really adds to the image.

The place was a shambles ;) But yeah the composition was a little off. It was born from desperation of trying to get a shot of the place. Its very narrow and the sky was always blown out. Plus, there’s so many people!
