Hillsborough remembered 25 years on in Liverpool

Featured, Uncategorized 16 Apr 14

Featured above is Tiger Smith. A young LFC fan who was determined to visit Anfield on the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

I have visited Anfield a few times over the years to pay my respects and to document the event. This year I went to meet people and find out what it means to them. Most said they were there because they had to be. They had to pay their respects. Others because they had a personal connection. There is massive love, respect and support here for the families who lost people 25 years ago. They aren’t walking alone. The city, the country is behind them. read more

The new artistic director at Tate Liverpool. Really nice guy. He previously worked on the Venice Architecture Biennale so I’m looking forward to his work with the Tate.

Brighton street portraiture

Uncategorized 31 Oct 12

At the weekend I was down in Brighton taking street portraits as part of a workshop run by Luca J Sage. Aside from being cold as a very cold thing it was a great deal of fun. I felt that my best images were produced when I slowed own, used a tripod and properly connected with the subject. I’ve always found it hard to really connect with a camera in my face. So I’ll be doing more of that slowing down in future.

Duncan Nicholas.

Tony Leonard. A civil enforcement officer (traffic warden). Ace guy. Really fun to chat to.

Rose Lock. Archivist.

Sharon Jaque. A local. Loves blue and has a huge collection of mainly Native American jewels on her.

We’re back!

My fiancé and I have just returned from 3 weeks travelling around Europe. New Brighton, Liverpool, London, Paris, Munich, Budapest, Zagreb, Zadar, Pula, Porec, Slovenia, Venice, Milan, Paris, London, Liverpool, and New Brighton. To put it another way, England, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France, England. We never travelled by plane so we actually saw these places. We were really connected with the landscape and, while tiring at times, it was incredibly satisfying. read more

Marie Dault

While photographing the Postman for the Biennial the other week I heard the sound of an old super 8 camera in the background. I turned round to see a woman filming the event. I thought she was a member of the production team filming it in an “arty” way. It turns out she wasn’t. Marie Dault was simply on holiday from Paris. She was a film user and processed her own film at one of the few remaining labs in Paris. I was blown away by the fact that she was filming using a super 8 camera. We chatted about cameras and film before she asked for directions to the Open Eye Gallery. read more

Fireworks on the waterfront

Uncategorized 23 Jul 12

At the end of a 2 day free music event, ‘On the waterfront’ lit up the sky with some lovely fireworks. Always nice to be commissioned to photograph fireworks on a warm summers day.
