• Monday morning. It’s dark. Darker than it should be. I grab my camera, iPhone, put my AirPods on and leave the cafe. It feels strange out. There’s something not quite right with the light.

  • While photographing the Pride march I had flashbacks to being in secondary school in the 1990s where kids, people I called friends, would throw terms like “Gay” and “Homo” around with no thought at all. You wanted to insult someone? Easy. Call them a gay. I think back on that now and it’s simply horrific. The idea of using what someone uses to empower themselves as a derogatory word to hurt someone else is absurd now. Different times eh. (more…)

  • The other night we were watching the latest episode of Doctor Who, season 10 episode 2. The Doctor and his companion, Bill, landed on an alien world of fields right out of Gladiator and some futuristic looking architecture. That architecture was not all CG models inspired by contemporary designs. It was actually Valencia, Spain and the work of Santiago Calatrava. It was a thrill to see it being used this way. The place is utterly bonkers and feels completely futuristic right down to the spaceship that’s landed at one end and is now an opera house. (more…)

  • There was a strong protest in Liverpool against Trump’s immigration executive order. The Guardian can sum it up better than I can. I’m totally against it. You can’t ban people out of fear, especially not the US which was built on immigration. I was really proud that Liverpool got a protest sorted in less than 24hrs. I was most proud about the diversity and energy in the crowd. People in wheelchairs laughing with friends. Kids, teens, adults, OAPs from a whole range of backgrounds. Comedy signs and poignant signs. Good show Liverpool. (more…)

  • Editing photos from New York is hard. I'm trying to find the good street photos in there but it's sort of hard work separating them from the bad ones. The ones where nothing is happening but the light is nice and the backdrop is NYC. It's like eating a spoon full of cornflakes and then having a chocolate bar right after. Every photo has the chocolate bar in. (more…)

  • So my plan was to blog every day. I missed the first few due to illness. Well thats fair enough, but the other day I got stuck in. 2 whole blog posts and then I missed a day. What happened yesterday? Was I too busy? Was I run off my feet and fell asleep as soon I stepped into the house? No. I simply forgot. (more…)

  • I wrote this before we went away to NYC. I was stressed and panicking. What if the trip wasn’t perfect? How do I make it perfect? Well all my fears proved to be for nothing as a few things happened that I never expected which just goes to show that maybe I should learn to chill out rather than make everything perfect?

  • In my final vlog of 2016 I mentioned a 2017 plan. It was this;

    • Instagram daily
    • Blog daily
    • vlog weekly

    It’s 11th January and this is my first blog post of 2017. Shazbot!

    Ok, so what went wrong? Well there’s a few reasons why I never got stuck in. I was quite ill last week and also I was in New York. When I wasn’t ill I was distracted by trying to be a New Yorker, which mainly involved eating bagels and tooting my horn (not an euphemism). I was so ill I couldn’t go through the photos I had taken. The worst kind of ill.

    I did manage to write in my journal though. I need to finish it off and print some photos but you know what, I freaking love having a travel journal. I’ve got receipts, cards, photos, memories, weather forecasts, and all sorts of information taped and written down in a book that won’t be bought out by Facebook and sunset shortly after. It’s my real world representation of our trip. I really love it. I plan to journal more using Field Notes and print out photos because it’s really nice to have real world things of note. I just don’t print enough of the billions of photos I take. 1 a day would be plenty.

    Anyway… Hello blog. It’s good to be home.
